“Oh, I don’t think so.” Raven said, a little put-off by the sudden friendliness of Bellatrix. “My name is Raven. Silvermist.” She took the other’s girls hand, stuck by how soft it felt. What were you expecting, razors hidden in her hand? She asked herself.
“Well, I’ll see you around I guess.” Raven said quickly, dropping her hand. She felt as though the big airy room was over crowded with this one other girl for some reason. She smiled in a fakely-cheery way and stepped around her.
Bella allowed Raven to leave, her fingertips brushing along the girl’s wrist as she swept past her. Emerald oculars rested on the back of Raven’s blonde head, as if attempting to will it into exploding. “You have yourself a good night now.” She smirked, amused by her own fake politeness.
Bella waited until Raven had gone, her footsteps no longer audible down the stairs, before she turned to call Noir back inside. She held her arm out for him to perch on, gently running her fingers over his feathers once more. “You are going to hate me for this. But it is necessary.” Nimble digits tugged one of the feathers from Noir’s skin, the owl hooting miserably and smacking Bellatrix in the face with his wing before he left the owlry once more.
With the feather safely secured beneath her robes, Bellatrix exited the tower in which the owlery was located, gliding down the stone steps until she entered the castle. She was certain the feather she now possessed was the missing key element in her newest potion; Draught of Death.

Bella settled down in her usual seat in Defense Against The Dark Arts classroom, her wand safely tucked into her boot, and her books splayed over her desk. She wasn’t exactly fond of this class, for in her opinion, it would be much more effective if the students were taught The Dark Arts. But she supposed that knowing how to defend oneself against various other creatures in the wizarding world would one day come in handy, so she did her best.
She turned her head to watch the other students who had started arriving, her dark hair falling in front of her emerald eyes, making her look incredibly frightening. Bella’s scowl was known to scare off more than a few of the baddest wizards at school, and she was not surprised when no one claimed the seat beside her.

Raven swallowed. She was a year older than the girl. And it wasn’t as though she was that one that was close to her mum, killing muggles for fun… A smile flickered across her face. That would be ridiculous. A student going out and killing people for fun.
“Well, there was this article in the paper this morning. It was just… well, distressing.” Raven said reluctantly. She clung tightly to the windowsill behind her, as though she was about to launch herself up and out into the empty air. “I’m just telling my mum about it. And, I, uh, forgot some books at home that I just realized I needed. For class. I mean.” She wondered why being so near this dark-haired girl scared her so. It was as though she had some sort of aura that Raven could feel. A dark sense of forbidding dripped from her like ink from an over-full quill.
“Mhmm. It’s truly horrible.” Bella whispered in a voice that sounded less than honest, her dark eyes flickering over the girl’s face. “Have we met before? I’m Bellatrix Black.” She took a few steps closer, slowly extending her arm in a gesture for the girl to shake her hand, not something she did very often.
Usually, Bella would refuse to touch anyone with muggle blood in their veins, but this time she made an exception. She was curious about the girl. Curious to know exactly how much of a muggle she was. Half-blood? Mudblood? Either way, she would be a new addition to Bella’s list of people to torment frequently. She didn’t necessarily enjoy it; cruel words and simple spells was not exactly exciting, but the method was effective. More than one student had left Hogwarts after a few months of Bellatrix’ taunting.

At the sound of the other girl’s voice Raven jumped, turning quickly. Her calmed mind started racing again with all the stress and fear that had been emptied from it moments before. She could see the other girl across the room was the same girl who had caught her eye in the Great Hall. Maybe she had been sincerely concerned. Then Raven’s eyes flashed over the Slytherin crest on her robes and hope of sympathy vanished.
“Ye-yes.” Raven hesitated, trying to figure out what she could and couldn’t say in front of this stranger. She vaguely remembered her from class and recalled a taste for pureblood frenzy. She wondered why the girl had even followed her up the Owlery in the middle of dinner. “I was just sending a letter home. I, er, I realized that I had forgotten something that I need.”
“Is that why you looked so distressed?”
Bella stroked the feathers of the bird on her arm, smiling when he nipped affectionately at her fingers. She wandered over to the window to allow him to fly free, waiting patiently for the girl to answer. In truth, Bella was uncertain why so many of the students at Hogwarts feared her, for the rumors of the wicked things she had done were just that, rumors. Well, most of them anyway.
The ones who had created them did not know Bella at all. She would never attack her fellow students in a way that it could be traced back to her. She had more brains than that. Of course, now that she had finally mastered the Imperius curse, she would never have to be the one to carry out her wicked deeds, unless she wanted to.

A dark eyed girl caught Raven’s panicked gaze. Raven thought for a moment the girl was laughing at her.
Shaking her off Raven stood up very suddenly knocking over her almost-empty glass of pumpkin juice. Clambering from the bench, she muttered a quick spell to clean up the mess on the table and on her shirt. She hurried away from the Great Hall and loud students, the clamor suddenly too much for her head.
Raven soon arrived in the Owlery, warm and almost out of breath. She pulled a spare bit of parchment from her bag and a self-inking quill, setting to work on writing a quick message to her mother. Calling a handsome tawny owl down she attached the letter quickly to it’s scaly leg and then let it fly out into the cool, evening air.
Raven stood at one of the windows of the great airy room, ignoring the crunch of bones underneath her feet. Her mind slowed from racing to a serene emptiness as she looked out into the night sky.
Bellatrix grinned in amusement as she watched the girl scurry off, though the look on her face left her curious. She was scared? Or did she have information about these murders?
The knife clutched in Bella’s hand was soon jammed down on the wooden surface of the Slytherin table, to the surprise of her fellow students. She caught the astounded look on Professor Slughorn’s face, though he did not do anything to interject. He was not the only teacher who feared Bella’s wrath.
She rose to her feet, black robes gliding along the floor behind her as she made her way out of the Great Hall. The silvery shine of Raven’s hair could be seen at the top of the marble staircase, and Bella sauntered along behind her, following her every step so quietly that not even the portraits along the hallways noticed her. As Raven entered the Owlery, Bella hung back, listening intently to make certain the girl was alone in the bird home.
Within few minutes, Bella joined the Silvermist girl, under the pretense of visiting her very own owl, Noir. She cast a glance in her direction after the owl was perched on Bella’s arm, the bird’s claws digging into her skin.
“Everything alright, dear?”

Bellatrix emerged from the dark dungeons after a particularly long potions class. She had stopped by the common room to dispose of her books and bag before heading upstairs, her dark robes sweeping up the stairs behind her as she moved. The Great Hall was crowded, like it always was at this time of day, and Bellatrix pushed a few second years aside to take a seat beside her sister, Narcissa, at the Slytherin table. Though she had washed her hands three times before she left the dungeons, her hands still smelled strongly of mandrake root, and it made Bellatrix’ delicate features wrinkle in disgust.
The napkin that was placed in Narcissa’s lap was soon within Bellatrix’ grasp, and she desperately attempted to clean her hands one last time before she helped herself to the Sheperd’s Pie. Long, dark locks of hair swept aside as she turned to face her sister, the used napkin flung at Lucius Malfoy’s head.
“How was your transfiguration class, Cissy?”
Narcissa’s eyes went wide when Bellatrix snatched the napkin from her lap, used it, then flung it at Lucius’ head.
“Bella! It was… interesting. I learned a new spell today that was easy enough to master, but I think it can be improved,” She paused, wondering if Bellatrix would be willing to give her tips to improve the spell. She looked down to her plate, noticing it was still void of all food, seeing as how she hadn’t gotten any food yet. She looked back to her older sister, the one person in this entire school that she looked up to, and opened her mouth to speak again. “Bella, have you got anymore letters from father?”
She was tempted to bring up her problems with Lucius, but she knew of her sisters dislike for the blonde-haired Slytherin boy.
With a flick of Bella’s wand, the tray of chicken that had been placed furthest away from them, appeared on the table in front of her sister. She knew it was one of Narcissa’s favorites, and seeing as she clearly hadn’t eaten yet, Bella had to make sure she did. The girl was becoming so thin, she would waste away soon if she didn’t change.
Bella’s lips curved up in a smirk as she heard Lucius curse her name under his breath, though her attention was fully turned toward Narcissa now. She poked at her food with a fork. “Not a letter, but a few clippings from The daily Prophet.” Emerald oculars roamed her sister’s face, curious as to why she would ask. Perhaps she was feeling homesick. Bella could relate to that feeling.
“Why? Have you had any?”

Bellatrix’ slender fingers trailed over the piece of newspaper clippings in front of her, finishing up the article that had been sent to her by her father. The words she had just absorbed made a wicked smirk tug at the corners of her lips, though the few other students around her with the same…
Raven’s mouth dropped open as she peered at the newspaper a boy held next to her. She snatched it from his hand, ignoring his outcry.
“I’ll give it back, don’t worry.” She murmured, pushing his hand away. She noticed he quickly gave up when he realized that it was class ‘freak.’ She pushed unhappy thoughts aside as she read the newspaper. She scanned the article, skipping the details about how safe everyone thought they were, and how they never thought this would in this neighborhood. She flipped the paper over to reveal a picture of the three muggles who had been murdered, being rolled away from the crime scene. Raven studied the picture for a moment, long hair cascading around it as she leaned in close.
In the corner of the picture was the street sign, which she could just barely make out if she strained her big, blue eyes. Patterson St. She saw with a jolt. She knew that street. The article crawled its way around the picture, noting the victim’s names, the first police officer’s comments, and that it had all occurred in a town 8 miles from her mother’s cottage.
Raven’s heart beat a little faster as she gave the newspaper back to the angry boy. If wizards were killing muggles that close to Mum
Bellatrix folded the little clipping away and stuck it into her robes, emerald oculars scanning the room for the other students’ reaction. Her gaze quickly landed on the halfblood girl, Silvermist, and the horrified look on her face made Bella grin. She reached out to grasp a shiny red apple from the bowl on the Slytherin table, a sharp knife soon accompanied the fruit in her free hand.
It wasn’t just the Silvermist girl who were reacting with shock and horror. All down the Gryffindor table, Bella could see the fear reflected in the students’ eyes, as if they had never heard of something so terrifying. Had it been wizards who had been killed, Bella might have reacted in the same way, though the thought of mouring strangers’ death, was just silly in her opinion.
The sharp edge of her blade cut into the apple, slicing off a big, juicy bite, which was soon shoved into Bella’s mouth. She chewed in silence, eyes narrowed as if deep in thought, and only smiled when someone looked her way. A smile that made the younger children shiver with fear.

Bellatrix’ slender fingers trailed over the piece of newspaper clippings in front of her, finishing up the article that had been sent to her by her father. The words she had just absorbed made a wicked smirk tug at the corners of her lips, though the few other students around her with the same article looked horrified. Three young muggles had been murdered. Not something that usually reached the Wizarding World’s news, but this was different. They had been murdered by magic.
People were panicking, silently, but panicking nonetheless. Everyone was certain this was not an accident, but rather the work of a dark witch or wizard. Bella knew exactly who would be behind this, and it made her insides tingle with joy. The Dark Lord. The one she would so faithfully serve from the moment she graduated from Hogwarts. This man was magnificent. She could tell, even if she had not had the honor of meeting him yet.
Bellatrix didn’t care that the rest of her fellow students seemed to have a different opinion. When the time was right, The Dark Lord wouldn’t need any of them. Only her.
